Board Game Bowls were created because we were frustrated with the current options available. We like good design and appreciate the effort board game creators have gone to with their craft, we wanted something to match. Before BGB's were born, we mainly used household containers to keep everything organised but they just didn’t fit. There was a mishmash of sizes and design features, and everything on the table started to clash. So we got to work and after a lot of testing and redesign we found something we liked and now we want to share them with you. This is our story:
Cameron first floated the idea of premium containers for board game components back in 2015. Kitchen containers designed for holding food just weren’t right - we weren't a fan of plastic. We chose wood for the material of our containers because we felt it had the best fit with board games. After all, board games are basically made from wood, deep down inside. We wanted something that was simple and minimal and could be used with all board games no matter what their design.

Because our team was spread accross two different countries, we initially quantified the bowl sizes using m&m’s. We had to figure out an average size of bowl that would be suitable for most games. Cameron in Australia had most of the board games so he filled a contianer with board game components and then replaced them with m&m’s for Nick in New Zealand to tweak the volumes. Eventually we settled on 3 sizes that could work as a set.
